It’s finally your turn. You get to host the party of a lifetime, but how do you make it stand out from all the other weddings in your social and family circuit? What will make your wedding awesome?!
KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING
We’re all for a bit of downtime at a wedding, but don’t leave your guests with nothing to do. After the ceremony when photos are being taken is often a pretty dull time for guests, especially for those who don’t know many people.
Create a space where the party atmosphere you want to achieve can be built. What about creating your own little vintage fairground, with attractions such as hook-a-duck, a coconut shy, and budget-permitting, a carousel. Or bring in a catering team who use an open air wood-fired kitchen, where guests can watch chefs creating their canapes over an open fire.
After your wedding meal, give everyone a metaphorical shot of coffee and get them back in the party mood. Hire in an awesome mobile drinks bar like this super cute Prosecco bar from Fabulously Fizzy. These guys are based in the South East but are willing to travel. Guests will love snapping away shots of the van for their Instagram stories and who doesn’t love Prosecco?!
INCLUDE LITTLE ICE BREAKERS
Chances are you’re going to be having a seated reception, and if you’re going with tradition, you’ll have a table plan. It’s an epic task deciding who sits with whom, making sure everyone gets someone they know to talk to or will find entertaining. To get the conversation started, use resources like Pintrest to find little icebreakers for each table. One of our favs are little ‘Who’s Who’ booklets for every guest to read and keep. The idea is the couple write quirky snippets about every guest and how they know them. Grouped by table, the guests can very quickly get a picture of the people around them and creates plenty of laughs.
GET THE MUSIC RIGHT
It can be tricky deciding between live music and a DJ. Our advice, go for a wedding band that offers DJ sets during the breaks so the party keeps on rocking. Live band Over the Threshold, who cover the UK, work with you to create your perfect set list for the evening do, and also offer a DJ playlist service at no extra cost, based around songs of your choice. They’ll even perform an acoustic set for your reception drinks or meal.
For couples who really love a particular style of music to dance to, really go for it and bring in a dance instructor! Get guests onto the floor for an hour trying out some Latin or Lindyhop. Trust us, it will make your wedding one everyone remembers!
