About this space

Polhawn Fort is a one-off, unique kind of place. It stands alone, quite literally. So if you’re looking for a coastal wedding venue to make your own, you’ve probably found it. Imagine a home-from-home vibe and you’re halfway there (if ‘home’ happens to be a Napoleonic fort, complete with drawbridge)!

There’s a set of steps leading from the Fort directly down to our very own beach where you can steal a little private time together, frolic in the waves with your wedding guests and catch some very special memories – the sea views from the beach are almost surreal.

A wedding at Polhawn Fort is all about choice. You are not restricted by us – it’s up to you! Polhawn Fort has been a dedicated wedding venue for over twenty years. The experienced team love nothing more than supporting you create the wedding of your dreams. Whether your want a simple, elegant affair or a magical carnival, we will help you make it happen. And with the stunning backdrop of Whitsand bay as well as the dramatic Historic Fort, the day will take your breath away!

Our team of experienced wedding professionals put their heart and soul into helping you create the wedding of your dreams. The Fort has been lovingly restored and transformed into a unique exclusive use wedding space. The Polhawn Team can show you how the Fort, surrounding grounds and private access beach can work for you as you plan your special day. You are free to choose exactly how you want to enjoy the spaces, designing an event that is completely unique to you.

THE BASICS
To confirm your booking with us you will need to pay 1/3 of the total amount as a deposit. The remaining balance & the Cautionary Deposit are payable 20 weeks in advance

Please be aware that all payments are non-refundable

If you haven’t already booked your registrar make sure you get this in hand as soon as possible. We will attach their contact details to the booking confirmation.

While nobody plans to rearrange or cancel their wedding sometimes life can throw things off kilter without any warning. Because of this you will require Event Insurance for your wedding. If you did have to cancel the contract your deposit will be forfeit and you will remain liable for any final balance or payment due to us.

For your own protection please make sure that any suppliers or contractors that you choose have their own Public Liability Insurance in place.

To meet our fire regulations the maximum guests at any one time, including children & babies is 120. The use of a marquee does not increase this.

You are welcome to have family parties and activities throughout the duration of your stay at Polhawn Fort and while most things are included in the hire cost of the Fort we do have to apply a charge for any days of licensable activities such as regulated music or a cash bar if it is in addition to your wedding day. The reason for this is that we have to provide a Polhawn Fort representative to meet our licensing obligations.

We encourage you and your guests to have a terrific time while you are at the Fort but it is your responsibility to ensure that your contractors and your guests work and play within our terms and conditions as well.

If you are planning on having a Cash Bar it must be authorised and run by a person who holds a personal licence

We welcome Dogs to the Fort, if you wanted to bring any other pets along please call our office with details.

We don’t expect you to leave the place in immaculate condition but please put all of the furniture back to its original position before you leave.

There are lots of fixings that can be used to secure floral and other decorations throughout the building and grounds at the Fort, please do not add any others.

Because we are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty we come under the same restrictions as a National Park. To make sure that we can continue to offer weddings to couples for the foreseeable future we have to restrict the visual impact of the Fort on the surrounding area as well as restrict the level of noise created by the Fort.

You can have up to four tracks played through an amplifier during the course of your ceremony. Any other outside entertainment must by acoustic only and must not include percussion or brass instruments. This includes inside a marquee.

You can have bands and DJs inside the Fort, the bands must have 7 members or less and finish at 11pm, while DJ’s can keep on going until 12.30am. After this time you can continue the party using the sound system provided by us. We do not allow silent discos.

Fireworks can be arranged with a professional Pyrotechnix team on the neighbouring farmland. We will attach their contact details to the booking confirmation. We do not allow fireworks or any other fire activity within the grounds of the Fort. We do not permit the release of sky lanterns or balloons from the Fort grounds.

You are welcome to use a marquee on our lower lawn, the walkway along the side of the Fort and the paved area in front of the Summerhouse. To keep the grounds looking great for every booking we do not allow marquees on the main lawn. For the same reason we request that you do not pick any flowers or greenery from our grounds or the drive and that you only use paper or rose-petal confetti outside.

We will be ready to welcome you at 4pm on your arrival day, please make sure that your suppliers are aware that they can not make deliveries until this time also.

Your departure time will be 10am, please make sure your suppliers know to collect any items by 11.30am on this date.

The full terms and conditions are on your booking forms and the contract becomes valid when you pay your deposit.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding here on 16th September 2017. The venue is absolutely beautiful, no matter what the weather, and we couldn’t be happier to recommend it to other couples. There is plenty of room to sleep family and friends in lovely rooms and both the grounds and interior are absolutely stunning. It doesn’t need much dressing at all! Having the venue for longer than a day really does mean you get to catch up with your loved ones in a way you never would if you had one big wedding day. 10 million stars x – September 2017

All our friends and family as well as this beautiful venue made our day perfect!!! This is a stunning venue inside and out.
