About this space

Want something a little different, more personal, something to make your friends go WOW?!

We are a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that’s in tune with nature and doesn’t cost the earth.

Whether you choose to set up a marquee among the wild flowers, a giant tipi in the vintage apple orchard or even hire our luxury treehouse, you effectively have a blank canvas; you can do as much or as little as you want and leave the rest to us!

We work on a ‘you hire the whole site’ basis which means the space is yours with all the camping pitches (x40) and the pre-erected Ecopods and Hobbit Houses, accommodating up to 150 guests in total . You also have exclusive use of our new luxury washroom facilities.

Meet the host

Barney (Site owner)

When my wife and I were planning our wedding here @The Hideaway in 2013 we found that the moment you mention the ‘W’ (Wedding) word many suppliers, caterers, venues, etc double or add another ‘0’ to their quotes so here @The Hideaway we simply charge you what we would take if the campsite was full of campers. We have to take into account lost reservations that we would have had through the week and over the weekend and also lost revenue in shop sales etc but this is carefully worked out we don’t add any extra digits just for the sake of being greedy! We know every £ counts when planning such a special day so we will try to save you as many £’s as we can!

House rules

We have two licensing conditions imposed on us by the local authority; all AMPLIFIED music and SALES of alcohol must cease at midnight. This does not mean you have to stop drinking and go to bed at midnight, it just means music played through speakers has to stop and no cash must exchange hands for alcohol…this is enforced by the police.
Many people have actually had enough by midnight as it is a long day but others do carry on singing and drinking after midnight which is fine.

“We wanted a relaxed celebration, incorporating the countryside and the outdoors as much as possible. We knew it was ‘the place’ as soon as we found it. It’s secluded with beautiful scenery but we also chose it because of how laid-back they were. We had access for the whole weekend allowing guests to stay on site in bell tents, creating a mini festival vibe.”

“Dear Jane (Our Wedding Planner),

As you can imagine, I want to thank you for your part in what turned out to be the most wonderful weekend for so many people.
In my wildest dreams (nightmares?!) I could never have imagined using a wedding co-ordinator. I think it must stem from an awful American film involving swans, dancers, and all sorts of other ghastly accompaniments.
But your expertise and patience, which helped me more than anyone, allowed us to adopt the relaxed and confident air which was what Ruth wanted more than anything else. My main wish for the weekend, especially bearing in mind what they’ve been through for the past 2 years, was that Ruth and Matt had exactly what they wanted, but so many people told me that it was the best wedding they had ever been to ( and those young people go to a lot of weddings!) that I think we created something really special.
We had a tree in the teepee for people to hang their good wishes. I’ve posted it on Facebook because I couldn’t have put it better myself
“This is without a doubt the most beautiful day ever and I wish I could take this tent and everything and everyone in it home for ever””
And that from a single young man on the outskirts of things.
Thank you again.”

Ruth and Matt
