Getting married in the UK? Live in the UK but getting married a long way from home? We’ve got some top tips to help you stay stress free!
Work with a wedding planner
I know what you’re thinking! Wedding Planners are expense! But we can guarantee if you book one, it’ll be SO worth it! Planners offer a variety of packages to suit your needs and budget. You can hire a planner to just come along on your wedding day to make sure everything runs smoothly, but for the destination couple, full planning is the ultimate stress-buster!
Once you’ve chosen the part of the UK where you’d like to marry, you need someone who knows all about hosting a wedding in that area. With full planning, a planner can make enquries about suitable venue availability, and preview them on your behalf (essential if you don’t have weeks to look around dozens of venues). They can source and negotiate the best price with wedding suppliers and attend meetings with them on your behalf, communicate with everyone involved in the wedding throughout the planning process (saving you hours and hours of time), find accommodation for all your guests, set up the venue, welcome your guests, and finally oversee the wedding day itself. These guys and gals are your wedding guardian angels!
Get Local Inspiration
Once you’ve found the perfect venue, read local wedding blogs to gather information about the local wedding professionals. You can discover amazing hair stylists, make up artists, venue stylists, and photographers by looking at a blogs styled shoots and real weddings. All the suppliers will be credited and tagged to their website/social media for ease of further reading. If your venue has a blog take a look at their past weddings to discover great suppliers who have worked at your venue in the past and see examples of their work in that setting.
Searching the # on Instagram for your venue and the wedding location (eg #WeddingsCornwall) is a great way to get some inspiration from past weddings at your venue or wedding location. Look out for tagged suppliers to discover who’s worked on weddings at your venue.
Remember your guests
This may be your incredible destination wedding, but don’t forget, your guests will also be travelling from far and wide to your wedding location. Thoughtful information is always appreciated. Suggest a list of places to stay, and make sure there’s some budget friendly options. If land isn’t a problem, why not make space for glamping or camping. Suggest taxi/minibus firms for them to use to get to/from the venue. Maybe even suggest local places of interest they may like to visit.
For the ultimate consideration of your guests, try and make time either before or after the wedding to have proper catch up, after all, they’re making the long journey just to see you! The wedding day is a whirlwind and if you have a large number of guests, chances are, you won’t have time to spend more than a few moments with everyone. Why not host a family only pre-wedding supper once the busy setting up is complete. Or perhaps a post-wedding lazy brunch or bbq with just friends where you can chat, share stories and have some fun together! Your guests will really appreciate it and make it all the more memorable!
Hire! Don’t buy!
When you’re getting married far from home, the last thing you want to be doing is hiring a van and driving all the ‘stuff’ you’ve bought for the wedding down to the venue. We know how tempting it is to accumulate things for the wedding, especially for the DIY couples. But there’s no need! Save yourself the time and energy of searching for and making those small details that fill up our spare rooms and cupboards for months on end. Hire in signage, table plans, props, table decor, crockery, bunting, lawn games etc. There are hundreds of quality wedding suppliers who hire just about everything you could ever need for a wedding. If you don’t eat or drink it, hire it!
